Drawing my dreams

As its coming to a year since the passing of my aunt, I think I've finally started to come to terms with her untimely passing. The vivid dreams just won't stop and so, i decided that seeing as i have no inspiration from life at the moment i would recreate sections of my dreams. Theyre always so vivid and seems so real that i don't seem to be forgetting them, what better a resource for animation than something only the subconscious could create. 

So.. part one of these ridiculous dreams... a sand beach with no sea just vibrant trees,  nothing beyond but light. 

Deflated - Pet shop owner - Character design

So recently i went to my first Deflated meeting. Id already been set the task of finishing a turn around sheet for the maid character, but in the end they changed the design and started over -.- what a waste.... oh well...

so they set me this on Wednesday and its now... Friday. so this is what i achieved on day on... just a couple of simple sketches and ideas on paper as i didnt have a wire to use a wacom tablet -.-

so you see my first design was an old asian lady with an apron in a hopefully recoginsable chinese - white outfit...  (based on how my grandma used to dress when she came to england, minus the fleece jacket)

the other image has some simpler variations, no colour.... 

please excuse the random half compliments written at the bottom of my page, if you follow my blog you'll see them jotted around as a little gift from my boyf -.- cute and sad at the same time i know...

so i scanned the drawings in and traced the outlines a little, cleaned up the drawings, coloured it all in ... and this photoshop file appeared:

I've yet to have any feed back on it but i think theyre adorable as hell and they match the style i believe they have :) hopefully these will get used... or atleast one of them...
i used different colours in each outfit in the hopes theyll like bits and pieces, mix and match them to make a character if they dont like any one individual drawing :)

Costumes

So Derek took the DGA210 Scheduling for Animation lass this week as Kathy was away and it was rather eventful for the table I sat on. we were set to create a costume that fits the character designs a company had made for an animation which they wanted to add to their theme parks - i didn't really understand the context, but while most people went for simplistic character designs, referencing and other doodles before going into costume design i went for the classic periscope idea.. yeah i know, not exactly classic. I did it as more of a joke at first but my table seemed to think it a viable costume design as the rest of them had just been looking at cute puppies rather than paying attention to the class... i mean.. they did do character designs in the end too but... yeah. 

basically its meant to be an ostrich but when i first saw the character design i thought it was a duck so excuse the face. but never the less... the guy has tights on, and then a body of fluff which is weighted on - probably - stilts... he holds the periscope up and sees through the eyes, and then the tail is also mechanical and will waft cool air into the suit through its... to put it politely... its rear end... the periscope would be heavy so in stead of holding it i guess it could be attached round the waist of the 'actor' and then.... the costume could hang around that?

i did some other drawings of festive ostriches with hula skirts and christmas hats too... not sure how the neck would bend just yet but... for a quick twenty minute exercise i think it went rather... spiffingly :)

side note: i thought stilts would make it hella cute and the kids would forever be terrified of ostriches.

i attempted a tim burton esque drawing today... hoping that maybe i can draw creepy stuff... or atleast find a style to draw in that i enjoy...

her hair is creepy, the elbows are weird af and the bow is brown but i think i like how mix and matched it all is :) 

i think i found my calling....

back to the beginning

started my research for my animation tech essay today and got distracted with the image of Snow white in my head. I was researching lightboxes and the lead to rotoscoping instead of key framing and inbetweening.. train of thought lead me to snow white the OG disney princess and their rotoscoping and use of live action for their first animation movie in colour <3
